Family Stepping Stones

The Kamloops and District Elizabeth Fry Society offers multiple Supportive Second Stage Housing options for women, those who identify as women and their children who are impacted by intimate partner violence/ gender based violence, substance use recovery, or needing additional well-being supports in order to achieve their housing goals.

The program cannot house any men (+19), including adult children. Housing can be provided up to 2 years on a conditional basis. Currently the Second Stage Housing options include three scattered site suites; and five 2-bedroom suites in our Family Stepping Stones Building.

Family Stepping Stones aims to support folks to find stable housing and build connections and support within the community to better assist them in moving towards independence. This program is built upon the name of Family Stepping Stones, as it is one step in one’s journey forward; we recognize that this looks different for everyone, so we focus on the individualized needs of each program participant as we work towards helping them achieve their unique goals and gain stability so they may make a successful transition into independent housing. Furthermore, by recognizing the diverse needs of all our persons served, we work with the program participants to build cultural connections, to gain natural and continual support, and to learn new life skills.

We are thankful to Enbridge for their support of Family Stepping Stones program!

Thank you to UWBC for helping us to aid women and children in need!

With special gratitude to BC Housing for supporting the creation of Penny’s Place and supporting women and families in our community!
